Nothing says "stuck in the 90s" more than calling flash drives "jump drives".
@Alex I agree because you might as well call SSDs "flash drives".
Also it turns out that "jump drive" is trademarked by Lexar which is why the term is rarely used these days.
@xianc78@gameliberty.club dongle
@souldessin @gabriel I always associate "thumb drive" with those really short flash drives.
@bonkmaykr Apparently, the different names stem from the fact that many different companies, all of the sudden, came with the idea of having removable flash storage that is accessed by USB and they all had different names for it, some of them being trademark. "Flash Drive" somehow ended up being the dominant name even though the term could technically be used for any flash-memory-based storage.
"Thumb drive" seemed to be the dominant generic name in my circles.
@nicholas @bonkmaykr @xianc78 I say either flash drive or USB stick. I always thought that jump drive and thumb drive were things old people said lol
"Flash stick" sounds better? 🤔 For me that phrase instantly calls to mind what creeps on the subway like to show unsuspecting riders.
@nicholas @bonkmaykr @xianc78 makes me think of fish sticks heheheh
Not so fun fact: Cats eyes in UK roads can actually pop out of the road and kill people by blunt force trauma.
When he got out, however, we could see there was lots of hair on him from our dog riding in the back seat. Oh dear. Had not thought about that.
